Q&A
DOUBLE SPEED?
Quick Test: Grab a standard 8 inch adjustable wrench and count how many flicks of the thumbwheel it takes to fully open and close it.
Husky's new 8 inch double speed adjustable wrench has a 31mm capacity and takes 7 spins to open and 8 to close. So yes, it does adjust twice as fast than standard one.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Husky's design makes use of a steeper helix angle on the knurl, such that one spin of the knurl translates to greater linear motion of the jaw.
So why haven't other manufacturers done this? Without extensive modeling and analysis, I can only theorize that such a design leads to shallower and weaker engagement between the knurl and jaw. This idea is supported by the extended length of the knurl.
A standard-design adjustable wrench knurl typically has three threads, with some premium models sporting a fourth thread for added strength. Thus, Husky might have added a fourth knurl thread in their wrench design to compensate for any weakening caused by the steeper helix angle.
